Operation Conservation

Lakeshore Learning hosted an Earth Day Contest that our class choose to participate in. The challenge... Earth Day is coming and we’re looking for new ways to inspire kids to protect our planet. Have any great ideas? From crafts and lessons to field trips and recycling tips, we’re inviting you to share what you do to teach kids conservation in the classroom…or at home!

How I chose to implement this project in my classroom:

First we discussed the word "conservation" and listed things that Ms. Winston does in the classroom to help the earth.

Then we brainstormed ways the students help the earth.

Next Mrs. Carabin read "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss and Ms. Winston challenged the students to design a poster of why it's important to take care of the earth.

During the next week we read books such as "Our Class is Going Green" and "Curious George Plants a Tree." We continued to discuss the importance of taking care of our earth.

To culminate Operation Conservation, the students brought their posters to school to share along with recyclable materials and we made our very own "litter bugs."

We displayed our posters on the wall and submitted our results to Lakeshore Learning. We had a blast, check out out slide show below!
