We clarify for three different reasons. We clarify
for phonics (CP) which means we don't know how to say the word. We
clarify for meaning (CM) which means we can say the word but we don't
know what it means. We can clarify for understanding (CU) which means we
can say the word and we know the meaning, we just don't understand how
the author is using the word.
