Writer's Workshop for the 2010/2011 School Year
Tuesday-Friday 1035-1115

I just finished the book No More I'm Done by Jennifer Jacobson and I will be implementing the following in January of 2011.
Morning Message
(During Morning Meeting)
Each morning I will write a morning message on chart paper. This is when I will focus on writing conventions. Throughout the year I will conduct mini lessons on the conventions that my school system requires.
Mini Lesson
10 minutes
Mini lessons will consist of teaching about the writing process, the six traits and the genres of writing required by my school system.
Quiet Ten
10 Minutes
During this time I will play classical music and everyone, including myself, will quietly write, draw, or think for 10 minutes.
Writing and Conferences
10 minutes
After the Quiet Ten, I will turn off the music and students have independent writing time.  During this time students are applying the skills they've learned from the mini lesson in their own pieces.  I will be monitoring students during this time and conferring with students who have signed up for a conference.
Author's Chair
10 minutes
After independent writing time 3 students will share what they have been working on.  During this time the audience will "point and question" the author.
Writing Rotations
20 minutes
Students will also have an additional 20 minute Literacy Rotation in Writing. Again, students are writing and I will be conducting writing conferences.

Students will complete their prewriting and first drafts in their
spiral notebook using a black pen.
After three first drafts, students will choose a piece to take
through the entire writing process.
They will revise their writing with a blue pen.
They will edit their writing with a red pen
They will sign up for a conference with me.
After conferring with the student they can now publish their writing.
They can choose to write on stationary or type the final draft.
